The Insider
All aboard a one-way trip to the new normal
If you could describe 2020 in one word, what would it be? It felt like we were living inside an irrational dream for many of us, only to wake up each day to see that the nightmare was our new reality. It was in one word: surreal.
The pandemic accelerated the shifts that were brewing in many areas of our lives and businesses, and it was unsettling. However, it also taught us how to deal with those shifts and the challenges that came with them. It made us stronger as individuals and as a society.
COVID-19 made us question everything―especially our “why,” our raison d’être, both personally and in business. It made us contemplate if our “why” contributes to society in meaningful ways, and if not, how to change it.
It also reminded us how important each individual is and that “the person” must be at the heart of everything we do, including our purpose, culture, and decision-making processes.
I hope you enjoy this edition of The Insider, where we try to paint a picture of what the future might hold for the person and the businesses that serve them, including:
-
- How leaders need to change to navigate the new normal
- The massive changes in the brand-consumer relationship
- The pandemic’s impact on customer loyalty
- The role of mainstream media in growing media literacy
- Why libraries need to be a fundamental part of our social infrastructure
- The office of the future, if there is one, and
- Why business events must be more about people than programs.
Despite the fears, uncertainties, and doubts we experienced in 2020, we can’t let ourselves walk tentatively into 2021. We must celebrate life in borderline frivolity and live not just in hope but also with the confidence that happiness, health, and prosperity are waiting for us. We just need to reach out and grab it!
Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2021!
